Why NFT Creators Are Going cc0
Counterintuitively relative to many classic intellectual property (IP) strategies, experimentation and recombination can sometimes grow the value of IP. This is a core dynamic of open source movements, which explicitly allow the public to build upon (or fork and duplicate) existing technology.

What are the commercial rights associated with this artwork?
The commercial rights are being given to the individual owners. If you own a finiliar, you may do whatever you like with it! 😊
The reason we are following a path of commercial rights being given to holders, like BAYC and CryptoPunks have done, is because the finiliar project has many years of art and IP associated with it through Ed Fornieles’ work as an artist. It is very difficult to build a brand or company around public domain.
CryptoPunks is a collection of 10,000 unique digital collectable characters represented by non-fungible tokens (such tokens, “CryptoPunk NFTs”) minted by a smart contract deployed to the Ethereum blockchain at address 0xb47e3cd837ddf8e4c57f05d70ab865de6e193bbb (the “CryptoPunks Smart Contract”). The CryptoPunks Smart Contract associates each CryptoPunk NFT with a piece of digital art displaying one of the CryptoPunk characters (“CryptoPunk Art”).
